Clermont, Lake County, FL – August 26, 2023

Law enforcement authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with an ongoing retail theft investigation after a stolen vehicle was spotted during a routine patrol in Clermont.

On Saturday, August 26, 2023, at approximately 4:18 PM, a Lake County Sheriff’s deputy observed a U-Haul truck matching the description of a vehicle used in a retail theft incident earlier that day at the 7-Eleven gas station located on Highway 27 in Clermont.

Upon confirming the stolen status of the U-Haul truck, the deputy recognized the U-Haul truck as the one used by suspects involved in a retail theft at JCPenney, also located in Clermont, earlier that day. The suspects, described as a heavy-set black male and a thin black female, were captured on security footage entering the stolen U-Haul and leaving the scene after allegedly committing the theft.

The deputy informed dispatch and began searching the surrounding area for the suspects, leading to the discovery of the female suspect entering a nearby 7-Eleven. The female matched the clothing description from the JCPenney security footage. Law enforcement officers remained outside, awaiting additional units.

Later, a heavy-set black male identified as Royale Wright was observed exiting the 7-Eleven wearing different clothes than those seen in the JCPenney security footage. However, he matched the physical description of the male suspect captured on the footage. Wright approached the stolen U-Haul, prompting officers to detain him and read him his Miranda rights.

Despite initial resistance, Wright eventually complied with officers’ commands and was placed in a patrol vehicle. Officers searched the 7-Eleven for the female suspect, later identified as Tyria Harrison, who managed to evade law enforcement by fleeing.

Upon review of security footage, it was established that Wright was the driver of the stolen U-Haul at the time of the retail theft. Although the stolen goods were not located inside the vehicle, numerous documents with Harrison’s name and prescription medication bottles bearing her name were discovered during a search of the U-Haul.

Wright was arrested for Grand Theft of a Motor Vehicle and transported to Lake County Jail without further incident. The investigation into the retail theft is ongoing, and authorities are working to determine the total value of the stolen items.

Lake County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that body camera footage from the incident is available for review.
